A putto "Cupid" (plural putti, /?p?ti/ or POO-tee, puttoes) is a figure in a work of art depicted as a chubby male child, usually nude and sometimes winged. Putti are commonly confused with, yet are completely unrelated to, cherubim.
This piece is preserved in the Antiquarium in Castellammare di Stabia (Naples). Inspired by a fresco with a dancing cupid dating back to 54 – 68 a.D. discovered in the “Villa di San Marco” at Stabiae.
