Norman helmet is the name used to indicate a particular type of iron helmet with a long nosepiece (hence the name Nasalhelm in German, "Helm with nose piece") widespread in Europe in the 9th century.
At the beginning of the 11th century, the nasal helmet was the most widespread type of helmet in Europe.
At the start of the Crusades, all warriors able to afford it had a helmet with a nosepiece.
The wealthiest warriors wore the helmet over the chainmail, compensating for the lack of protection for the cheeks, neck and partially also the shoulders.
During the 12th century, the helmet tile with nosepiece underwent several evolutions.
This helmet is a transitional model towards the semi-closed helmet, late 12th century.
The nasal helmet was abandoned during the 13th century in favor of the increasingly widespread large helmet. The transition, however, was not abrupt; As late as 1250, the iconography of the "Maciejowski Bible" presents many figures of warriors armed with nosepiece helmets.
The Spangenhelm was composed of several metal segments welded together with rivets. The cap was made up of four or six segments welded by a metal strip that runs along the entire circumference in the lower part; between one segment and another there were metal bands that converged on the top of the tile.
Spangenhelm with faceplate features eye and breathing holes, to allow the wearer to breathe easily. Holes can be customized upon request. On the base of the helmet there is a decorative leather strip.
All our helmets are suitable for historical re-enactment parades, exhibitions and above buhurt (heavy combat), in the latter case it is necessary to choose the 2mm thickness.
