This replica of an Italian helmet is forged from 1.6 mm thick steel. The original is dated to ca. 1460. These helmets were not only used in Italy, but were also very common in Switzerland and southern Germany, especially by foot troops.
The broad brim not only protects the head but also the shoulders, chest and back from any danger from above, such as the arrow fire of the late medieval archery. The brim and the crisscrossed steel bands are riveted to the helmet bowl. The bowl is made of two parts that have been welded together in the center. Although the materials thickness is "only" 1.6 mm, the helmet can be considered as battle-ready.
