Shield of Robert Bruce

Shield of Robert Bruce

This heraldic shield has the typical characteristics of heraldic shields used in the High Middle Ages (c. 12th to 14th centuries) - a triangular or V shape, a flat top and rounded sides that taper to a point. It is made of plywood, tightly covered with linen and painted by hand. The back of the shield, painted yellow, has two so-called shield cuffs (holding straps/arm loops) and a longer shoulder strap made of strong, sturdy leather, which are firmly fixed in position with steel rivets. The leather upholstery, which is fixed with studs at arm height, provides better protection against shocks and impacts.

Shield of Robert Bruce, wooden, painted

The medieval shield we offer here shows a standing crimson lion (known as rampant lion) on a yellow background - the coat of arms of Robert I of Scotland (1274-1329), also known as Robert Bruce or Robert the Bruce . In 1314, after years of struggling against the English crown, King Robert defeated the army of Edward II of England at the Battle of Bannockburn, a pivotal battle that ultimately led to the restoration of Scottish independence. Alongside the legendary William Wallace, Robert Bruce remains one of Scotland's most famous historical figures to this day.

Although this wooden shield is a bit too light and thin for full contact, it's still a great prop for light combat, re-enactment, LARP, stage or TV/film and will make your transformation into a knight or a proud and noble warrior. Perfect. It is also a beautiful collector's item, an object of display or an object of decoration for all lovers of English history and heraldry.
