Late Roman Spatha (Straubing-Nydam type), 3rd century

Possibly because of the Barbarian or Germanic influence, battle technique and sword shape evolved toward the end of the 2nd century AD. Blades became longer and swords were carried on the left side. The Straubing-Nydam type Roman Spathas are narrow and long.

Our replica follows originals found in southern Germany dated around the 3rd century.

The blade is made of steel. The hilt is made of bone and brass. The wooden scabbard is covered in leather and riveted with authentic brass ornaments.
